Submission Guidelines for Authors
Case Reports in Odontology is a peer-reviewed, open access e-journal which covers, reports and publishes medically interesting and unique case reports in various fields of dentistry including Dental Anatomy, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Oral and Maxillo-Facial Pathology, Microbiology, Periodontology, Implantology, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics, Orthodontics, Oral and Maxillo-Facial Orthopedics, Restorative and Esthetic dentistry. The CRO welcomes original, unpublished Case Reports, Short Communications and Letter to Editors in/related to the above mentioned disciplines of dentistry. While submitting papers to the CRO, authors are required to adhere to the following manuscript submission guidelines.
Types of Works Accepted:
1) Case Reports:
 Reports of clinical cases of educational value or diagnostic value, describing a new therapy, suggesting significant facts. Case Reports should be up to 1200 words including references. It must have abstract and up to 10 references. The authorship should be restricted up to four authors only.
2) Short communications: Brief reports of current trends and innovative methods in diagnosis, treatment and management of dental patients. These should be usually about 1300 words. The authorship should be restricted up to four authors only.
3) Letter to Editor: Should be short, decisive commentary or observation on a current topic of significance with relevance to dental patients. It should be of up to 500 words including references. The authorship should be restricted up to four authors only.
Plagiarism Policy:
The submitted work must be original. Authors must check their work for plagiarism as the CRO has zero-level plagiarism tolerance.
Language:
The submitted work must be proofread and submitted in Standard English only. The submitted work must reflect author’s high level of academic and written competence in English
Citation Style:
The CRO follows and requires APA (American Psychological Association) Style for all the accepted manuscripts. Therefore authors are advised to follow APA style while citing and listing all the sources cited in the manuscript.
Manuscript Submission RequirementsS:

  • Papers must be submitted on the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere and are not currently under consideration by another journal or any other publisher. The submitting author is responsible for ensuring that the article's publication has been approved by all the other coauthors. It is also the authors' responsibility to ensure that the articles emanating from a particular institution are submitted with the approval of the necessary institution. Only an acknowledgment from the editorial office officially establishes the date of receipt. Further correspondence and proofs will be sent to the author(s) before publication unless otherwise indicated. It is a condition of submission of a paper that the authors permit editing of the paper for readability. All enquiries concerning the publication of accepted papers should be addressed to managingeditor@casereportsinodontology.org
  • Authors should include a cover page with- full title of the paper, author’s full name, academic affiliation, email address, phone number and postal address. As the CRO exercises double blind peer-review, authors’ name/any other identical details must not appear elsewhere in the article.
  • Authors should submit a four line bio data (including complete name, academic affiliation, highest educational qualification, teaching /research experience and/or interests)- separately apart from the paper.
  • The manuscript should be submitted electronically, as email attachment in MS Document Format (and in PDF as well if the manuscript contains tables, figures or texts in other languages) to editor@casereportsinodontology.org and a copy to managingeditor@casereportsinodontology.org
  • Units of Measurement: Units of measurement should be presented simply and concisely using System International (SI) units.


Manuscript Format:
Submitted works should follow the following format:
Paper Title: (Center justified, typed in Times New Roman, Font 16)
Abstract: The manuscript should contain an abstract. The abstract should be self-contained and citation-free and should not exceed 200 words.
Introduction: This section should be concise, without subheadings.
Case Presentation: This section should present all of the relevant information about the patient in the case being reported, as well as the full description of the patient's symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome.
Discussion: This section should provide context for the case being reported and provide any necessary explanation of specific treatment decisions.
Acknowledgments: All acknowledgments (if any) should be included at the very end of the paper before the references and may include supporting grants, presentations, and so forth.
References: Authors are responsible for ensuring that the information in each reference is complete and accurate. All references must be numbered consecutively and citations of references in text should be identified using numbers in square brackets (e.g., “discussed by Smith [9]”; “as discussed elsewhere [9, 10]”). All references should be cited within the text; otherwise, these references will be automatically removed.
Preparation of Figures: Upon submission of an article, authors are supposed to include all figures and tables in the PDF file of the manuscript. Figures and tables should not be submitted in separate files. If the article is accepted, authors will be asked to provide the source files of the figures. Each figure should be supplied in a separate electronic file. All figures should be cited in the paper in a consecutive order. Figures should be supplied in either vector art formats (Illustrator, EPS, WMF, FreeHand, CorelDraw, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) or bitmap formats (Photoshop, TIFF, GIF, JPEG, etc.). Bitmap images should be of 300 dpi resolution at least unless the resolution is intentionally set to a lower level for scientific reasons. If a bitmap image has labels, the image and labels should be embedded in separate layers.
Preparation of Tables: Tables should be cited consecutively in the text. Every table must have a descriptive title and if numerical measurements are given, the units should be included in the column heading. Vertical rules should not be used.
Proofs: Corrected proofs must be returned to the publisher within 2-3 days of receipt. The publisher will do everything possible to ensure prompt publication. It will therefore be appreciated if the manuscripts and figures conform from the outset to the style of the journal.
Disclosure Policy: A competing interest exists when professional judgment concerning the validity is influenced by a secondary interest, such as financial gain. We require that our authors reveal any possible conflict of interests in their submitted manuscripts. If there is no conflict of interests, authors should state that “The author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interests regarding the publication of this paper.”
Research Ethics/Consent: As a condition of submitting a case report, authors must be able to provide written confirmation that the patient described in the case report has given his/her informed consent for the case report to be published. The editorial office may request copies of the consent documentation at any time.
Rights and Permission

  • The CRO editorial board reserves the right to make editorial changes in any manuscript selected for publication for the sake of style and clarity.
  • Authors of the accepted manuscripts assign to the CRO the permanent right to electronically distribute and store their articles in the publisher’s database as well as in databases of the CRO indexing partners.
  • As the primary aim of the CRO is to generate and disseminate new, high-quality knowledge, this transfer of rights enables and ensures the wider dissemination of information, which also helps us in getting more citations for our authors.
  • Copyrights for the works are retained by the authors with first publication right granted to the CRO.
    Authors may republish their text, in any form, after the work has appeared in the CRO, as long as they cite and clearly acknowledge the CRO as original publisher.
  • Authors are free to disseminate their works by uploading / submitting in any library / repository/ database etc.
  • Authors can retain all the copies, pre-published, published, and can use them for their academic, research and any professional needs / purposes.
  • Review Policy:
    To ensure the quality of the content, which we publish and disseminate, all the manuscripts are subject to double blind, peer review by a number of the editorial board members and are expected to meet standards of academic excellence.
    Review and Publication Procedure:
  • All the authors, who submit their works, by following the CRO submission guidelines, receive an acknowledgement from the CRO office, upon receipt, to confirm the safe arrival of the paper.
  • The received manuscripts are checked for plagiarism, by using plagiarism tools and mechanism set by the CRO, and those selected are forwarded to the editor-in-chief for further evaluation.
  • All the manuscripts are first read by the editor-in-chief/ the managing editor to check if they fit the journal’s aim and scope and may be rejected without further review.
  • The manuscripts selected by the editor-in-chief and/or the managing editor are then sent to the editorial committee for further detailed evaluation and for further review.
  • As the CRO exercises double blind peer-review, it takes normally, 2-3 weeks for the reports of the reviewers. Both author’s and reviewer’s identities are kept anonymous.
  • Authors can expect the decision on their manuscript after 2-3 weeks from the date of submission.
  • The final decision, communicated to the authors, can be conditional or unconditional acceptance, a rejection, or an invitation to revise and resubmit.
  • Resubmission is invited if only appropriate changes are envisaged to have been eventually made. Authors are informed by the CRO what changes are necessary based on the reviewers’ reports.
  • The editor-in-chief and the managing editor reserve the right to make any necessary changes in the review process, if the need arises.
  • The CRO office guides and assists all the authors while completing the required final procedures.
  • The accepted papers are immediately published in the Current Issue of the journal and are made available online within a week after the paper is accepted for publication in the CRO.

APC:
As the CRO is an Open Access journal, it asks the authors of the selected manuscript for publication, after peer-review, to pay article processing charges. These charges are from USD 50-100.
